Within a short drive of La Contessa there’s an abundance of fascinating things to see and do for every age and interest. These are just a sampling what may peak your interest!
Internationally Acclaimed – Local Culture
Unique to Arizona and nearby are two wonderful cultural experiences not to be missed. Taliesin West, the winter home of Frank Lloyd Wright and Cosanti, the gallery and residence of Paulo Soleri, the visionary architect and one-time student of Frank Lloyd Wright.
A tour of Taliesin West takes you inside the life and incredible talent of world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. His school of architecture is still active today and his philosophy, adapted from his teacher, Louis Henry Sullivan, “form follows function” is more relevant than ever. This is a wonderful outing for you; or your winter visitors may enjoy this one-of-a-kind event.
Another architectural and artistic legend, Paulo Soleri, once a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, who died in 2013 at 93, has his studio and gallery open for touring in Scottsdale, west of Scottsdale Road on Doubletree. Cosanti is the gallery and foundry of the famous Soleri bells you see throughout the southwest and beyond. There is a selection of spectacular bells on display and for purchase throughout the property and gift shop. A visit is truly a worthwhile outing.
Close by is a branch of the Scottsdale Public Library, the Mustang Library. It is not only stocked with all the wonderful reads you might consider; there is also a schedule of presentations and seminars covering a range of interests from cooking and nutrition, to raising backyard chicken, learning digital media and writing assistance from guest authors and more. There are lots of opportunities for the kids and teens as well.
